Why Some Property Owners End Up Being Slum Landlords
Some people have asked us why some landlords will neglect their property and leave it in shambles so we decided to answer this question here.
The first major reason is because a lot of slum landlords are not interested in being proper landlords in the first place. What do I mean by that? These people are more concerned with buying property then reselling it fast for a quick profit. In other words, they are into flipping property.
Monthly payments from rent collection are merely a sideline income for these people while they hunt for a suitable buyer. Some of them also use their rental property as a convenient tax shelter to slash their tax payments.
Another reason for people turning to the dark side of becoming slumlords is the fact they no longer have any interest or money to maintain their rental properties.
Owning and managing a rental property is a bit like running a business. If you deprive your rental property of passion or maintenance funds, it will naturally decay and die a slow death.

Psycho Landlord
She called again last week and told me she wants me to leave her property today! I told that psycho that the law states that you must provide me with a 60 day notice according to the lease. She then hung up the phone! It seems like she wants to take her frustrations out on someone because her husband hates her guts. That's not my fault and I refuse to be the scapegoat for the witch.
Two days later, I get a eviction letter dated Nov 16 stating that I agreed that I will leave her property by Nov 30th! She is such a liar and I really want to leave but I never agreed to leave that fast. I will be so happy when this nightmare case of the witch from hell is done with.
I know my rights and I will be looking into this matter and monitoring closely with the proper people.

Get Your Security Deposit Back
Most states hold landlords to strict guidelines as to when and how to return security deposits. The general rule is that you are not responsible for normal wear and tear. If you cause damage by your unreasonable carelessness or deliberate misuse, however, you must pay for it. Landlords are typically required to return your security deposit, or give you an itemized accounting of the deductions from your security deposit, within 14 to 30 days after you move out
Ten Tips for Tenants
Bring your paperwork.
Review the lease.
Get everything in writing.
Protect your privacy rights.
Demand repairs.
Talk to your landlord.
Purchase renters' insurance.
Protect your security deposit.
Protect your safety.
Deal with an eviction properly
I have moved over and again as a renter and have never, I mean never received any security deposits back. Why? Because I never knew my rights and assumed the landlord was right! It's time to start taking action.
